The Oxidation Reduction Potential Index, commonly referred to by the acronym ORP, is the oxidizing power of contaminants in water by chlorine. The ORP index was first defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1971 as a standard for drinking water and has been used to control the quality of pool water for over 40 years.
